Experiencing the Epitome of Luxury at Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve.

Writer's picture: Aaron BurnetteAaron Burnette

My recent stay at the Dorado Beach Ritz-Carlton Reserve transcended the boundaries of luxury. The service I encountered here reached a pinnacle of excellence that surpassed even my loftiest expectations. Every member of the staff went to great lengths to ensure that every aspect of my stay was nothing short of perfect. The property itself was a masterpiece of design, seamlessly integrating with the natural beauty of its surroundings.

The spa, crafted by the renowned architect Jose Solis Betancourt, felt like a sanctuary of relaxation and rejuvenation, where each treatment was a personalized journey to well-being. The golf courses, designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Sr., provided a golfing experience that was as challenging as it was breathtaking, set against the backdrop of the Caribbean's unrivaled beauty.

The Dorado Beach Ritz-Carlton Reserve truly stands alone as the epitome of luxury, where every detail is meticulously curated to offer guests an unparalleled and unforgettable retreat in a class of its own.

Dorado Beach Ritz-Carlton Reserve (Pros):

Dorado Beach Ritz-Carlton Reserve boasts a series of compelling advantages that set it apart as a premier luxury destination. Guests can relish the experience of exquisite beachfront villas, complete with direct access to the azure ocean. The spacious bathrooms, featuring an outdoor shower, add to the opulence of the accommodations. The resort takes personalized service to a whole new level with dedicated butlers catering to villa guests' every need. The top-notch spa and wellness facilities provide a sanctuary for relaxation and rejuvenation. Culinary enthusiasts will find delight in the multiple dining options offering diverse cuisine experiences. Moreover, the property's unique design, characterized by world-class architecture and meticulously landscaped grounds, ensures an unforgettable visual feast. Notably, the resort's commitment to cleanliness and maintenance stands out, with everything appearing as if it were just built – making it the cleanest property many have ever experienced.

Dorado Beach Ritz-Carlton Reserve (Cons):

Dorado Beach Ritz-Carlton Reserve, while offering an exceptional luxury experience, does come with a couple of considerations. The guest rooms, in comparison to other resorts, are relatively smaller. Additionally, it's worth noting that the prices for both accommodations and services at this resort can be on the higher side. These aspects may be a consideration for travelers seeking more spacious lodgings or those with budget constraints. Nonetheless, the overall opulence and superior service provided by the resort often outweigh these factors for those seeking an unparalleled luxury getaway.

Nearby Activities

The Ritz-Carlton Reserve has one of the most beautifully designed and crafted pools that I have ever seen. The tiling is immaculate. The incorporation of plant life and palm trees throughout the pool adds to the level of sophistication. The stunning infinity pools overlooking the pristine beach lined with beautiful contrasting boulders that add to the depth of beauty offering picturesque wave breaks.

THE SPA….THE SPA…..THE SPA. As if this place couldn’t get any better. The Spa is a Sanctuary in the middle of the jungle. It feels like the spa was built in the middle of The Garden of Eden with the Tree of Life at its center. Once entering the grand doors of the Spa you are transported to another world. It’s mesmerizing and awe inspiring. You step through a lush and Asian influenced apothecary and escorted would looks like the grounds of Mount of Olympus. At this spa you can receive all the treatment designed for the gods.

Dorado Beach Ritz-Carlton Reserve (Cons):

The pool hours. Pool hours are from dawn until dusk but honestly are fully open to accommodate pool who would want to use the pool to about 8am. Depending on the season, Dusk can be around 6pm. So, the vibes pretty much die down and you’re relegated to the room plunge pools if you have that option or the beach. So you have very limited time within the day to fully enjoy one of the most beautiful pools that I have ever seen crafted and designed.

Noteworthy details

ACCESSIBILITY:

If you have someone w/ a disability or small child that may require a stroller or scooter, then there may be some difficulty when accessing certain locations on the property. There are small service elevators on and ramping but you will be able to get around. We were a party of 4 including a 3 year old and at points we were separated during the initial tour of the property w/ our butler to have to use small service elevators. Not an inconvenience to me at all but this is something that I feel one must consider when traveling to this property.

BOOKING PROCESS:

Transparency as it pertains to booking process, incidentals and credit card holds. I understand that this is the type of property where their customer base consist of people who may have no interest to need to know of any upfront charges or holds on the payment used but when doing any credit transaction I do find it important to know what to expect at time of check-in. For my stay after booking, I received an email confirming a Pre-Auth Deposit in the sum of 1 total night with taxes included to confirm the booking a few days after the booking. I believe this deposit info is provided during the booking process but it is buried in a ‘about rates’ hyperlink on the checkout process but not in the subtotals and amount due sections when booking. In the check-in process they charged a hold of the $150 resort fee plus additional $500 incidental fee per night on card used during the booking. For those who are big loyalty customers please chose your cards wisely in booking here to maximize your points earnings where you can as I found it adventagous because the incidental fees just forced me to spend more on property and charge it to the room because we all know it’s a mixed bag when we talk about releasing of funds due to credit card holds. I rather limit my spending on site to $500 per day and not have to deal w/ it.

SERVICE EXPECTATIONS:

This is not your typical Ritz-Carlton property. The overall vibe can be a bit formal at Ritz but this property takes it to another level, which might not suit all travelers. The Service is immaculate but at times can feel a little overwhelming. I’ve experienced great service at many high-end properties but this type of service is just DIFFERENT. I can’t stress that enough. It is more ‘hand and foot’ more suited for the 2% class imo. Was a little intimidating but the staff was so nice and accommodating that those feelings soon melted away.
